POSITION TITLE: Senior Director, Membership

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Director, Membership Operations; Manager, Database and Membership Services; Director, Membership Development; Associate Director, Member Engagement and Communications; Senior Manager, Membership and Chapter Operations; Senior Manager, Membership Projects; InfoCenter and PBD Worldwide team.
PURPOSE OF POSIION: The Senior Director of Membership provides strategic leadership and management of APhA’s Membership Department. S/he is responsible for executing APhA’s new membership strategy by recruiting and sustaining a diverse, active member base of individual pharmacists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other key audiences. S/he is responsible for developing long-range membership goals and strategies to meet them; implementing and evaluating all programs to meet those goals; determine the feasibility of new programs and products; and directing membership operations to capture, process, maintain and analyze member, customer and company data and over $4 million in annual dues payments. A close collaboration with colleagues in the Communications and Marketing departments on both strategy and tactics is expected. The Senior Director, Membership reports to the Senior Vice President of Communications and Member Engagement.
FUNCTION 1: Develop and implement a strategic membership marketing plan to ensure a strong value proposition for members and realize the Association’s membership goals. (55%)
Evaluate membership best practices and programs, along with current APhA programs, and recommend new products, programs or business lines to best meet APhA member needs.
Develop and direct/implement membership recruitment and retention strategies to advance/achieve the association’s strategic plan components related to membership.
Oversee marketing development schedule for all assigned membership/marketing programs; manage overall project including message development, creative execution, production, printing and distribution services, and list selection and management.
Evaluate membership development efforts, assess current membership targets, identify and make recommendations to improve and enhance effectiveness of current strategies and tactics in delivering value to key member and customer groups.
Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly membership status and performance reports and coordinate monthly financial closings with the Finance department.
Working with the Research Department, conduct market research to analyze member satisfaction and determine appropriate programs, benefits, products, services and campaigns to achieve strong member Utilize statistical analysis tools to analyze growth trends of the Association and profession in forecasting APhA’s future membership direction.
Collaborate with other APhA departments in planning and implementing events, membership campaigns and programs intended to increase awareness of and membership in APhA.
FUNCTION 2: Direct APhA's membership operations. (25%)
Effectively manage membership operations and outside customer service personnel to execute excellent member services, and membership development and retention programs that increase membership and improves experience, service and member benefit access.
Develop, manage and monitor components of the APhA budget related to membership recruitment and retention activities, member benefits and programming.
Oversee Membership Department personnel in establishing and maintaining dues billing systems and development; oversee processing of payments and monthly reconciliation.
Oversee and direct membership operations staff on their responsibilities related to optimal use and management of the Association Management System (AMS), Personify. Work collaboratively with the Information Technology and Digital Information Systems departments to plan for and assess future membership technology and marketing technology needs.
Participate in operational working groups related to the functioning of AMS, website content management systems, business intelligence and data governance initiatives, and other APhA digital and technology projects.
Select and supervise third party vendors for APhA benefits package to assure that they are consistent with APhA objectives and are fulfilling contractual Serve as liaison between these vendors and APhA.
Develop and implement business processes for measuring progress toward revenue/sales goals; provide as required regular status reports to the Senior Vice President for Communication and Member Engagement.
FUNCTION 3: Lead special projects and/or initiatives that supplement and enhance APhA membership operations. (20%)
Participate in Board meetings to report on membership strategies, outcomes, and performance.
Participate in Association and pharmacy-related events, committee meetings and regional conferences as they relate to membership strategy and operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
